First edition, first printing. Original green cloth with silver titles to the spine, in the Ralph Thompson illustrated dustwrapper. An excellent near fine copy, the binding clean and square, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with a small bookseller's paper label to the front pastedown and a few foxing spots to the closed text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the near fine lightly nicked first printing dustwrapper that has a couple of tiny closed tears to the panel edges, remaining bright and without loss. Not price-clipped (16s net on a publisher's label over the 18s printed price to the front flap, as issued). A lovely example of a notoriously difficult first edition to obtain in collectable condition.
The first and best known book in the author's autobiographical 'Corfu trilogy', a classic and the basis of several successful television adaptations.
